Creativ Handmade Cardmaking Kit

When it comes to special occasions, I like to create my own cards, such as the Bookmark Card . Apart from enabling me to get creative and add a personal touch to any gift, it allows me to re-use cardboard and decorations that I happen to have lying around.

However, seeing my interest in this kind of craft, a family member recently gave me the . It aims to provide you with everything you need to make two cards.



Included in the kit are two envelopes, two cards, four diecuts and four die cut frames, 1 metre of ribbon, a small packet of sequins (1 gram) and 6 buttons.



At first I thought there was good variety in this collection . It seemed like I would be able to pick and choose what I wanted to use and wouldn't be making a predetermined card.

However, when I started working out a design, I immediately noticed a problem. The white decorations get lost against the white card, while a lot of the sequins are see-through, which means they aren't really visible either. In contrast, the black stands out so well.

Suddenly my options seemed much more limited.



While black and white are two colours that do look sophisticated together, I think another combination may have worked better. If I were to be picky, I would also have preferred that all the diecuts were already separated from their frames (they come away less cleanly when you have to do it yourself) and that black buttons were included as well as white ones (I would have like to use the contrasting colours for the centres of the flowers).



Still, I do think the kit is quite good. It allows you to produce a tasteful, handmade card that shouldn't look like a kid's craft activity and it would suit a range of people. Those who are interested in scrap-booking can add the leftover decorations to their collection or use their own differently-coloured cardboard, while anyone new to cardmaking will be provided with everything they need to make at least one card and have a chance to try out the past-time.
