The mobile bar area at Virgin Australia's lounge at Sydney Airport - domestic
The great thing about being able to travel, whether around Australia or overseas is being able to enjoy airline lounge access. It can come at a high price, especially if you buy a first or business class ticket. Otherwise you need to fly fairly frequently in order to reap its benefits. The Virgin Australia lounge at Sydney Airport has such benefits attached.
A hub of activity, yet you can still relax here.
The lounges are great, and at times they can be just as stressful as perching yourself on a chair at your flights departure gate. If given the choice to sit on the floor and nod off, or to perch yourself on a couch hotel lobby style, it's a rather easy decision.
This writer's domestic travels have taken her to Melbourne, both at home and as a visitor in a short period of time, while recently the writer flew with Virgin Australia to the Sunshine Coast for a holiday.
A glimpse of the breakfast selection
Comparing the Virgin Australia lounge on business, and most recently on a holiday, the experience was similar. As at the time of writing this, the Virgin Australia lounge at Sydney Airport is undergoing a facelift, and it is well overdue. The polished (rather unpolished) floorboards are tacky, and are in need of an urgent polish, and their tables and chairs are showing signs of old age simultaneously.
Near the barista service in the mornings
Their rest rooms are just sparkling. Expect black tiles with modern white sinks and high end hand wash and hand cream beauty products. Heaven.
Rest room sinks with Grown beauty products
Their food is top notch. For breakfast the winner is the simple fruit salad with yoghurt, otherwise a variety of different toasts are available. If not, try your hand at making your own ham and cheese muffin. Water with oranges is a clear winner, and so are the bottles of Mount Franklin Sparkling Mineral Water.
A great barista service is also enjoyed here, and come 11am the bar opens. A good drop of Pinot Noir (with my camera phone already switched off for the week) was perfect prior to boarding a delayed flight, that was lucky to land at Maroochydore without needing to divert to Brisbane, unlike some other flights had to due to inclement weather. Perfect.
The lounges in the lounge
Do not take the Asian salad with fresh chicken slices off the menu. The chilli flavour is spot on. The chicken pieces are cooled to the right temperature and sliced finely yet elegantly. Thank you Luke Mangan.
Friday night dinner? What about hand made tacos? That was a treat to help enjoy the waiting time from work in Sydney to home in Melbourne at the time on some Friday nights, and when I chose to not fly Qantas.
One of the most popular drinks of the morning. A great cleanser too.
A great lounge, yet a bit ordinary. My opinion will change once the renovations are complete. The Qantas Club domestic lounges at Melbourne and Sydney Airports are way more luxurious with comparable food. The food at the Virgin Australia lounge at Sydney Airport is faultless. Perhaps bring in pancakes for breakfast like Qantas has recently done in their lounges. All in all, airline lounges are great to work, rest, study, read, relax and survive a hangover in. Thank you ever so much.
