The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Butter

by Vanessa M (follow)
The Body Shop's Brazil Nut Body Butter contains real Brazil nut oils that have come all the way from Brazil. It also contains cocoa butter and shea butter, with the ingredients all designed to work together to moisturise skin and keep it feeling soft.

This particular body butter is designed for dry skin, which is perfect for me. The product has a pale, creamy colour and quite a thick consistency. In fact, it's denser than I would usually like. When you first open the container, there isn't even a seal between the product and the lid, which I took as a sign that it was too thick to be able to run anywhere when not stored properly.

While The Body Shop claims this body butter should absorb easily into the skin, I found that even when using only a small amount, my skin felt a little greasy after I first put it on. However, I've learned to use less and spend more time rubbing it in, and since you don't need to use that much at a time it should last for a while.

Part of the reason I like body butters is the different scents you can choose from. At first, I thought that while the Brazil Nut Body Butter did smell nice, with a rich, luxurious element that sets it apart from the citrus scents, it may have been a little too subtle. However, now that I've been using it for a while, I can detect the smell as soon as I take the lid off.

One feature that sets this product apart from others, and perhaps justifies its higher price, is that you're helping out people on the other side of the world when buying it. The Body Shop has a fair trade partnership with a group of Peruvian Brazil nut harvesters, meaning that anyone who purchases this product is helping to preserve their traditional way of life. Through the shea and cocoa butters, buyers are also helping to fund community projects elsewhere, as well as providing women and small-scale farmers with a source of income.

While The Body Shop does sell some of its other body butters in smaller, 50ml sizes, which can offer buyers better value if they are just testing the product out, at the moment the Brazil Nut Body Butter only comes in a 200ml container, so you have to commit to the full size straight away, but it's pretty much the standard size for body butters anyway.

The product costs $27.95 and you can get it via The Body Shop's website or in-store.
