The Maybelline New York Mineral Power Powder Foundation was the first foundation I ever used. Years later, I'm still buying it, but that isn't to say I'm completely satisfied with the product. It's just that I haven't found anything better. Yet.

The main problem I have with this foundation is that even the lightest shade is too dark for my skin (I use the Classic Ivory shade). It's a problem I have with all foundations and I'm yet to find a good match (I did find a Revlon product that was pale enough, but for some reason it was full of glitter - don't ask me why that's supposed to appeal to me).
Until I find something better, I've found I can make the this foundation work by applying it sparingly or blending it a bit with a paler finishing powder. However, the product always seems lighter when I first buy it and gets darker later - perhaps it's something to do with coming into contact with air.
Because I usually use the foundation sparingly, I don't get complete coverage, it just evens my skin tone out a little. Sometimes I don't mind this effect, even if you can still see a few blemishes, because it looks like I'm not wearing anything.
However, there are times when I would like to look like I have perfect skin (who wouldn't?). As a result, I have applied it more thickly in the past and found that the coverage still isn't amazing. Some people might prefer to use it as a finishing powder itself as it does create a very matte look.
I apply this foundation in the morning and it usually lasts all day without a need to reapply, however if you have oily skin you will need to fix it up after a while. The make-up never looks caked on and it's pretty easy to layer.
The foundation comes packaged with its own brush and to apply it you need to tip some of the foundation into the lid first. I've found the best way to do so is to keep the lid on, turn it all upside down and give it a few small shakes, then take container away while it's all still upside down.
However, the foundation isn't the most portable, because once you've taken the initial plastic covering over the holes off, the lid will start filling up if you carry it around, making it harder to get small amounts onto your brush when applying. Mine is usually just kept on my chest-of-drawers at home, where there is now an area of pink powder around it.

Take the covering off and it can get messy
Different lights make this foundation look different colours (natural light is one that makes it more obvious I don't have the right shade), but one advantage is that it does looks good in photos - probably better than it does in person.
Maybelline New York Mineral Power Powder Foundation is not perfect and I am still looking for a foundation that matches my skin tone, but until I find it, I'll think I'll keep returning to this one. For now.
