Lowepro's Melbourne 10 Camera Pouch is a product I definitely recommend as a way to carry and protect your compact camera. Lowpro also suggests using it for other small digital devices, like MP3 players and phones, but I think it's pretty clear the product has been designed for cameras specifically.
In particular, the pouch has been made for point and shoot cameras. There is only one size, but because the fabric stretches, there isn't really a need for any more. I've used mine to hold a few different point and shoot cameras over the years and they've all fitted inside perfectly.
A snug fit
You can get the Melbourne 10 pouches in a variety of different colors and prints, like purple or red with flowers, or blue or black with spots. There aren't actually any plain ones in the range - the most neutral on sale at the moment is black one with small, pale spots. All of the patterns only cover one side of the pouch.
Lowepro specialises in bags and cases for cameras and it seems the company really knows what its doing. The pouches are made of neoprene, which feels quite thick and is good for absorbing any liquid spilled nearby. I don't want to put it to the test, but I feel like if I drop my camera while it's in this pouch, there won't be any damage.
There is a loop on one side of the case which helps makes it easy to carry too. You just thread your camera strap through it and you've got a handle that carries the camera and pouch all at once.
Easy to carry
I've had my pouch for years and so far it isn't showing a single sign of wear or age, other than the fact it's a bit darker and dirtier than when I first got it. It's even outlasted two cameras (the first stopped working, the second I dropped as I was using it).
In fact, absolutely nothing has gone wrong with my camera pouch at all and it still works as well as now as when I first got it. The fabric isn't wearing down, the zipper hasn't jammed once and nothing is fraying.
I think this product has been very well designed: it seems practical, effective and attractive, and apart from releasing new styles, Lowepro hasn't had to make any changes since it came out in 2009.
